You Don’t Need an Audience -You Just Need This
The day I realized that you don't need social media

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” - Helen Keller
You’re doing everything ‘right’, following every business coach’s advice on social media…
The posts. The reels. The stories. The carousel quotes.
…and still not getting traction.
You’re consistent. You’re valuable. You’re exhausted.
I know this because, like you, I’ve done these things. And… hated it.
This past Christmas, I was back in Allentown, PA with my fiancée’s family.
We do it every year, two weeks off, hanging with family, and trying to take a break.
But if you’re like me, extended time off gives you anxiety because you “should” be working or maybe you just like working more than arguing over what everyone wants to do… again.
Except this year, something unexpected happened.
I landed two new clients—without posting a single thing.
No automated content.
No “algorithm hack.”
No DMs disguised as “authentic engagement.”
Just two amazing clients… right in the middle of my break.
Imagine my surprise when I opened my phone and saw over 100 new followers and 3 new Discovery calls (what I like to call my sales calls) booked.
Here’s how:
One of my clients, Amy, unexpectedly posted about me on IG.
A kind shoutout. A personal story.
Shared with her audience—the one she’s spent years building.
She runs HackYourHR on IG and has spent years building the brand. Doing all the things that I’ve struggled so hard with.

The IG post from Amy’s “AMA” story
And just like that, two people who already trusted Amy trusted me.
This moment completely changed the trajectory of my business.
Not because of the 100+ new followers, but because it completely shifted my mindset.
I don’t need to build an audience. I just need to borrow one through collaboration!
And so do you.
Let me back up for a second…
For nearly a decade, I’ve struggled a lot with one thing in business: Marketing.
Or more honestly said - marketing myself 🤢
Not sure if I hated marketing because I sucked at it, or sucked at it because I hated it…
Either way, it steals my soul.
I love what I do. I’m good at what I do.
But when it comes to showing up online?
I get rocked by thoughts like these:
“You’re not smart enough.”
“You’re not credible enough.”
“You’re just chasing attention.”
And if I’m being honest… I hate selling even more than marketing.
Not because I don’t believe in the value.
But because the way I thought I had to do it never felt good.
Still, I kept pushing. Videos. Editing. Copy. CTA’s. The grind continued.
All while secretly hoping I could just coach and forget the rest.
But when I saw what happened over the holidays?
It all made sense.
The problem wasn’t my offer. It was my strategy.
If you’re like me and you hate marketing yourself, you might want to listen to this.
What if you…
Stop trying to build your business one post at a time.
Start building your business one collaboration at a time.
Most people are pouring hours into content…
Only to get hijacked by their own screen:
🐿️ Funny ferret videos. Just me?
💥 Breaking news alert. The world is ending, right?
👟 That once-in-a-lifetime BOGO sale!
📉 And… there goes all your confidence after spending an hour secretly comparing yourself to all of other “successful” people online.
We call it “marketing,” but half the time it’s just a cheap dopamine trap.
What if you took all that time and energy…
And used it to build relationships with people who already have the audience you want?
People who:
• Love your work
• Trust your message
• Want to share it with their community
That’s one-to-many. That’s collaboration.
And that’s how I’ve been growing, while spending a lot less time online.
Why this matters:
You don’t need to hack the algorithm.
You need to escape it.
Collaborate with people you respect.
Get in front of the right audiences who already want and need what you offer.
Let your work speak through people who already have trust.
And reclaim your power in the process.
So let me ask you:
Would you rather…
1. Post daily for months (or years) to slowly grow an audience
OR
2. Get introduced to 100+ ideal clients with a single trusted shoutout?
This shift didn’t just attract amazing clients.
It gave me my energy back.
My confidence.
My time.
My joy for the work I actually love doing.
Could it do the same for you?
Your Teammate,
Matthew
P.S. This experience changed everything for me—and I’m curious where you stand.
